3 Smoothie Recipes for Kids

3 Delicious Smoothie Recipes

Created by a kid, for kids (of all ages)!

Meet my 7 year old son Leroy! He is a natural born chef and loves taking care of his health + wellness (I think he gets it from his mama)! This summer he blew us all away with his smoothie creations. Once he got started playing around with recipes, it was smoothie overload at the Dershin household. He was whipping up smoothies for family and friends whenever he got the chance.

Leroy was getting such incredible feedback it inspired him to build a smoothie stand on the side of the road, and try to sell his creations.

First things first, he was excited to build and paint his cardboard smoothie stall which he aptly named "Smoothie Magic." Next, he made flyers and handed them out to neighbors. He literally knocked on close to 20 doors and personally invited people to come to the grand opening of his new store. He prepared the night before by making smoothie cups.

If you follow me at all, you know I love to make smoothie bags - I prep 10 or so at a time, with all the ingredients that would go into the smoothie except the liquid and keep them in the freezer. Knowing this, Leroy suggested he do the same thing to prepare for his smoothie stand. Brilliant!

He ended up making a killing!!! (And not just cause he's so darn cute).⁣ Perfecting his recipes means he can now whip up a smoothie for him and his brother whenever they please. The recipes are legit delicious, so we decided to share them with all of you!

These smoothies are perfect for beginners, people with a sweet tooth and kids of all ages!

HOT TIP!

Make smoothie bags (or in Leroy’s case, smoothie cups) ahead of time. Add all your ingredients into portioned containers and pop them in the freezer. Add the liquid when it is time to blend, not before, or you will just have a giant ice cube to deal with!

HOT TIP!

Use your ice cube tray to make frozen yogurt! Makes your smoothies so creamy and delicious, plus you know you’ll always have some on hand

Smoothies are a great way to ensure your kids are getting plenty of fruits + veggies along with vitamins, nutrients, protein and fibre. Including healthy foods to your kids diet, along with a good night’s sleep, and plenty of exercise will help keep your child’s immune system strong.

I for one don’t shy away from giving my kids lots of fruits. I understand there is a a great debate when it comes to fruit and its sugar content. But my kids aren’t drinking soda and eating junk food or sugary snacks as a part of their daily diet, so if they want a smoothie or some fruit, the answer is always going to be YES!
