GOOD LIFE GIVES BACK
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” ― John Holmes
We are equally proud and humbled by our ongoing efforts to give back to our community, and after years of being shy about sharing what we do, we felt it was time to share! We couldn’t do it as well or as often, if it weren’t for the incredibly talented and giving group of humans that make up the team at Good Life Juice. It is a collective desire for doing good that continually ignites our spark to give back.
In the collective spirit of things, we hope by sharing what we do, it may in turn, inspire more do-gooders to find ways to give back. Perhaps there’s a few closeted do-gooders out there that just need a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge :)
WE'RE RAISING MONEY AND COLLECTING ITEMS
for the incredible new Samaritan Place in Nanaimo
Thanks to Island Crisis Care Society this amazing new building offers supportive housing for women and families in crisis. Samaritan Place has 14 housing beds and 51 supportive housing units. The Good Life Crew is jazzed for the opportunity to help women in our community, and we would love for you to get in on the FEEL GOOD action!
As people are moving into their new spaces they need items to help their space feel like a home and adapt to their new life. For the entire month of April we will be collecting items and you can drop them off to our shop or give them to our driver. These might include:
Cleaning supplies: bucket, broom, dish soap, toilet bowl scrubber, bathroom cleaning supplies, unscented all purpose cleaners, pot scrubbers,
Consumables: toilet paper, coffee, tea, small wrapped snacks
GOOD LIFE JUICE will be donating 5% of sales from every bottle of juice sold at the shop in April! 2022
So get drinking + know you're helping!
1 Liter Program
Juice Sponsorship
Established not long after we launched, we have had 47 Vancouver Island residents participate in our program over the years, making it the #1 way we give back. We sponsor people who need our juice, when they need it the most. Whether they are fighting a disease or healing from surgery, we don’t want the cost of juice to prohibit them from getting the healing benefits.
Nutrient dense, anti-inflammatory, live with enzymes, easily digestible, absorbable, and packed with healing potential, Good Life Juice really can make a huge difference.
The 1 Liter program got it’s name because we chose to give people juice in re-usable 1 Liter containers, and the inspiration came from helping Cindra Caverley. Her friend + neighbour saw how much our juice was helping Cindra and came to us, offering to help cover the cost of some juice for Cindra. We decided we could subsidize the cost, and keep costs down with the re-usable containers - skipping any branding or labels, and just getting them what they need. Neighbour Jayme’s desire to do good, inspired us to do good, and the 1L program was born.
We take on a handful of islanders at a time, and we are proud to report we are currently at max capacity :)
From little kids to little old ladies, we have had the pleasure of helping nourish people from all walks of life. Many of who we have the pleasure of getting to know really well, along with their friends and loved ones who would often be the ones picking up the juice. Others, from Victoria and else where on the island only our delivery driver gets to meet. But either way, they have all had an impact on us and we are grateful to be a part of their journey.
Good Life Opportunities
For Unique Employees
Our mission is to provide an employment opportunity, training, and socialization for a uniquely qualified person within our community. Since we started as a family business in the basement of our home, we felt it was a safe and nurturing environment to hire individuals who would benefit from a work opportunity that not all companies offer.
As we have grown and expanded out of our home based business into a larger facility, it really is a team mentality that makes everything work so cohesively. The group of supportive and caring humans that make up our team allow our company to continue to be an environment well suited to give someone with a disability an opportunity to thrive.
Supporting our Local Farmers
Juice Pulp For Life!
What do we do with all the leftover juice pulp? We get asked this questions a lot, and we love to answer it! The animals eat it! Other than the pulp that goes into our Superfood Granola, the rest is donated to local farmers.
Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with many different Vancouver Island farmers. It has allowed many of them to have more livestock than they could otherwise afford due to the abundance of feed, that is of the highest quality no less!
We love hearing stories of how healthy + vibrant the animals are thanks to their GOOD diet. And we're grateful for the opportunity to support local farmers and be connected to our community in unique way.
The Rach
For Rachael
Her name was Rachael. She was our kin. A big part of us. She was our team mate and our friend, and we lost her far too soon. Figuring out how to honour the loss of our good friend and create something in her memory was something the team wanted to do together. A juice just seemed fitting. We came together, and the first thing we chose was the colour. Vibrant. Beautiful. A perfect reflection of Rach.
To honour her memory and the desire to put a little something aside for her babies, this juice was born. 100% of the proceeds from this juice is saved for them.
Before Rachael passed, she shared something on her facebook feed, commenting on the power of group consciousness in relation to redwood trees. It fueled us to plant some redwood trees on her birthday, and we go back to have a can of Lucky and share stories each year. We felt it fitting to share it with you as well. :)
“The redwood trees are some of the oldest and largest trees on the planet. Some of them are hundreds and thousands of years old. The roots however don’t grow deep. These trees have stood tall for centuries enduring devastating earthquakes and monsoon windstorms without deep roots, but how did they keep standing?
Their roots, under the ground, they reach outward seeking the roots of other redwood trees and when they meet they intertwine making a permanent bond with each other.
All the trees are directly or indirectly giving SUPPORT to each other; UNITY is their strength. They reach out giving support to each other - the new trees are given support by the ancient giants. Here nature is giving us a valuable lesson - our real strength is our willingness to care for and support each other.”
